Structured credit
Bank and SACCO Loans in Kenya
Bank and SACCO loans often provide larger amounts and longer repayment terms than mobile apps, but they require more documentation and careful comparison of fees, insurance, collateral, and deductions.
Bank loans
Banks may offer salary-backed loans, unsecured personal loans, secured loans, asset finance, overdrafts, and credit cards. Compare the annual interest, processing fee, insurance, early repayment rules, and whether the repayment will be deducted from salary or account deposits.
SACCO loans
SACCO credit is usually connected to membership, deposits, guarantors, and savings history. It can be useful for disciplined borrowers, but guarantor obligations must be taken seriously. If a borrower defaults, guarantors may be affected.
Documents commonly requested
- National ID, KRA PIN, and contact details.
- Payslips, bank statements, business records, or M-Pesa statements.
- Collateral documents or guarantor details where required.
- Credit report or consent for lender credit checks.
How to choose
Choose a loan term that matches the useful life of the expense. School fees or medical needs may need a different repayment plan from a business asset. A longer term can reduce monthly pressure but increase total interest, so compare both monthly affordability and total cost.
